I'm going to rant a little here, so please forgive me. I am very disappointed in the Poor Boys of Florida because not one of them has bothered to respond to two requests I have made on two forums for clarification about whether our cars would be accepted into Billetproof March 22nd. Here are the rules from their website:

Here are the rules. Read 'em and weep:

* 1964 and earlier TRADITIONAL style rods and customs ONLY!
* No visible billet anything! Especially wheels!
* Traditionally styled choppers and bobbers ONLY! (No modern West Coast Choppers, OCC style fluff bikes)
* No trailered cars (race only vehicles excepted with prior approval)
* No digital gauges (it's not traditional and it's ugly)
* No IFS on fenderless cars (it's not traditional and it's ugly)
* No mag wheels made after the 60's

Keep in mind that we have the right to refuse any vehicle WITHOUT A REFUND, so read the rules carefully and decide for yourself. Don't cry when we turn you away, tears stain billet.

The reason I want to know if our cars will be turned away is because I am not going to drive 3-4 hours to be turned away at the gate. I want to know beforehand.

End of rant.

Don,They had all the same rules to the one that I attended here in CA.They did not turn anyone away. There were plenty of cars there that had Chrome and or billet.I dont think you will have any problems.

That's probably true George, but I sure don't want to preregister two cars, drive 3-4 hours, and be turned away and not even get a refund.

With those type of rules, my guess is they are just trying to keep the billet street rod types out.
I wouldn’t think you’d have any problem with your car, but if you did, at least it would be a fun 3-4 hour cruise :D.

I know Chop, but if you figure hotel rooms, gas, time lost, and then they won't even give you back your registration fee........I just don't want to gamble. Especially on Don's T, he has lots of bling on it.

Can you believe that?

I wouldn't take a chance on the attitude they are displaying. They must be really tough guys. Look how they emphasize the TOUGH WORDS in their so called rules. Too bad for me to hang around with. LOL Why would someone do something like that? It displays your ignorance for everyone to see.

For what its worth. It is a really good show. The cars are really off the hook. Some of the fabrication in these cars is amazing. This was the first year that I attended and will go to another this year.I ran up there in my daily, because my car didnt fit in.But I had a good time.

I dought that I will have even started the 29 by the time it comes around this year. But I will be there either way.I got alot of good building ideas from the last one.

Its just like some shows. They have their rules and thats the way it is.

I think "the rules" are the same for all the Billetproof shows.

At the Michigan shows, there are some cars that don't meet
the letter of ALL the rules, and a few that get turned away.

Overall,it's a good time, and everyone there is very civilized.

Don, the Poor Boys are just hosting the show as a club which is a major amount of work on their part. They don't own the show. Billetproof is an entity to itself. I didn't see your sons T, but I saw yours. There is no way that car would be turned away. It's not shiny stuff that they are trying to keep away, it's the so called contemporary street rod stuff. I don't think that they are trying to be snobs. It's always been a traditional style show. Those rules are not new. They are just trying to make sure a bunch of folks don't show up in modern style street rods and expect to enter. When Dan posted pics of your T over at the HAMB, people went crazy over it. I'm sure you would get the same reception at Billetproof. As for the 60's date of the wheels, I'm sure that relates to the style and not the actual date of manufacture. Nothing makes a car look modern like a contemporary set of wheels. Email Alan at Billetproof and send him a few pics.

Also remember that the show is at Don Garlits Museum of drag racing. That alone is enough reason for me to make the trip, which is over a five hour drive for me.

That sumes it all up.I still dont think you guys will have any problems.I saw streetrods there with Blue tape over small billet parts.

Well, I might have to eat crow. Tonight I proposed to Dan that we skip it and go to Daytona and he says even if I don't go to Billetproof he is. He says the same thing that you said Bill, that my car would be ok. Don will probably not be able to go as he plays every Saturday anyway, so that solved the question about his car.

I guess I will try to register and see what happens. I also apologize the the PoorBoys, I thought they were running the whole shooting match.

Hi Don,
Sorry nobody saw your request sooner. About half of us are up to our ***** in car building and haven't had much time for the boards. Gastrick pretty well summed things up. He "gets" what Billetproof is all about. If you have any doubts about your cars, just email a picture/description to Alan. It's ultimately his show. Here's his addy: [email protected] He's a great guy. Nobody is going to get turned away for a couple of billet gee-gaws but we don't want 20" billet wheels and every billet accessory in the catalogs. The idea here is old style hot rods. Come on up and join us. It should be a blast. If you have any questions, please post or PM. One of us will try to check more often. Mike

Ike, Relax dude. There's no attitude being shown. Just trying to put the emphasis on old style hot rods rather than have another show with hundreds of ***** pink with blue squiqqly things down the side, 20" billet wheels, engine that had a billet catalog puke on it,street rods. This is more about home built cars. If you have a heap that fits the rules, bring it and have some fun with us. Lots of cool stuff planned. Mike

Mike, thanks for posting. I've calmed down now and have a better understanding of what the deal is. I do sincerely apologize to the Poor Boys because I thought you guys were the go to people for info on the show.

My Son explained last night the same things you just mentioned about trying to limit it to pretty much traditional cars. When I saw the line about "no visable billet" I freaked because it is almost impossible to build a car today without one or two billet items like my alternator bracket.

Thanks again Mike, I'll email Alan.

Don

No problem Don. We can answer some questions but some are best handled by Alan. Don't worry too much about a couple of billet things. Within reason, it should not be a problem. You won't get turned away for a couple of billet doodads. It is tough to built without them. Don't tell anybody but, I put a brand new polished Billit Specialties crank pulley on my car:eek: 'Course, I scuffed and painted it satin black first. :D We look forward to seeing you there. Mike
