Hey BH - does the rear turn signal do the same thing ? If it does, it maybe in the signal mec. it's self or a faulty ground. If not as CR55 said , it sounds like a ground issue. Using a multi-meter, check out the ground [continuity] and voltage of the socket on both front and rear.

Bigger problems. I got the blinker working. ( but I am not sure how)
When the headlights are on the right turn signal indicator lights up, and the blinkers don't work at all. I think it is a bad ground, but how do I find it?

I'm not sure about your yr. truck, but all the lightning on my old ford went through the turn signal mechcanism in the steering column under the steering wheel. I gave me all kinds of problems, turn signal wouldn't work - then it would - turn on headlights and the tail lights would go off, hit the brights and the left turn signal would stay on - so check under the steering wheel, the plastic pieces of my turn signal mechcanism had broke which in turn stopped one wire from making contac on the little metal ring. Good luck - that kind of **** can drive ya BONKERS!!!

On a 79 Ford Truck there should be a ground screws on the radiator Support in the areas of the head lights. Trace the wiring back from the lights, there should be a Black with a white strip. That the ground wire. Take the screws loose sand the area and the ends of all the ground wires. also check for broken wires or bad ends. I always use a new screw when I put it back together.

Bad grounds on a ford can drive you nuts.

Thanks guys, still working on it. I'll keep you posted. I can tell you that under the horn cover, the plastic is all broken there. It could be the ground screws have to be re-done, just pulling around on the wires got the rt front blinking again.

Id put my money on a bad ground, either in the socket or body.Your getting a back feed through a double filiment bulb(park/blinker). Clean sockets check continuity with a meter to ground, check ground straps on body.

It was bad grounds and, the truck is up and running now. Still blows a fuse now and then, but it all works, Traded out the signal switch with another truck I have, and pulled a handfull of extra wires out from under the dash. Grounded everything.
