After the latest reports about food manufacturers producing fraudulent foods it makes me want to report fraudulent octane claims at most gas stations. My Chevelle takes hi-test & when I put *real* 93 octane in it... it never diesels when I turn it off. Seems like lately... every time I fill up... it diesels when I go to turn it off. I know good & well it's not 93 & want to file some sort of complaint! If I have to pay these BS prices for premium... I want what I'm paying through the nose for!!! What's gas like in u're area?!?

My daily driver and my 27 both take premium and I haven't noticed any difference on those as of yet. But years ago my ex had a Buick LeSabre that would only run on Chevron Supreme. If we put any other hi test in it, regardless of brand, it would ping like mad.

One time I drove her car and it was pinging so I said to her "Did you put Chevron in it?" and she said she had gone to another station because she wasn't close to the Chevron station. As soon as we put the Supreme back in there it cleared up. I don't know why Mobil, Sunoco, or any other gas would not work, but they wouldn't.

We had a couple unscrupulous stations round here, years ago when they first installed the three choices, fixed their pumps to deliver the middle grade when the premium was chosen.
They were caught and paid a stiff fine.
When this happens, are you using the same station all the time or different ones ?
The advertised octane is the minimum it's supposed to be.

I've noticed this too occasionally. My daily requires premium and though it will run on regular it has noticably less power since the computer dials back the timing to keep it from pinging. I always use 93 but once about every 6months I notice I get a bad batch.

Either on purpose or by mistake the station fills the premium tank with regular. Most folks would never notice. You'd have to be driving a non-computer car that NEEDS preimum...aka Tripper.
