Building a frame ..stack.?

Is it better to stack the front frame rails one on top of each other or "Z" the front end.?How much would you want under each piece..?Notice the STACKED frame look in the third pic.

The third picture is the strongest, and the strongest,overlap would be at least the height of the frame, (ie, 4 in. for a 4in frame.)

Bonehead is correct,But it is ugly. Why not just sweep the rails. It just flows better IMO.

I like the frame the one guy made where he made a bunch of pie cuts in the 2x4 and welded them so the frame had a nice radius kick up in the front

You can do the "stack" and make it look nice. If you cut the ends right and have enough length you could round the ends over a radius.

Most people z to keep from shortening an existing frame. If you're building fresh I would overlap it can be done to look good.

If you like the look of the tubing butt welded use fish plates inside the tubing.
That ads a lot of strength. And you still have the smooth look on the outside.
