hey what are your opinions on a caddy 472, are they reliable, a good engine, etc.
i found one in a junk yard out of a 68 caddy deville for $188

Personally I dont know a whole lot about those motors. I would look into what a rebuild kit costs. Do you know how many miles are on it? how long it has been sitting? It sounds like a pretty good deal, but I would look into what it would take to make it tip top, ya know.

I think any decent running big block for less than $200 is a deal. A 472 isn't a popular choice to hop up, but it'd be unique and a conversation starter, for sure. One question though; why $188 ? Odd price for an engine.

I've am going to use the Cadillac 500 in my build. I picked it and transmission up from a buddy that uses them in demolition derbys. One thing to think about is what transmission your planning on running. The transmission mount is different for the Cadi than from a Chevy. If your not planning on running the stock Cadi Turbo 400 you'll have to come up with an adapter plate.

the tranny is still hooked to it i beleive, i forgot to ask....
188 does seem like a weird price but thats what the guy told me at the junk yard. if i go for it im hoping to reuse its current tranny, it should have a 3 speed auto in it.

my '68 coopay was the POOP! man, too much fun for 1o years till she puked.
tons of power 375 horses stock, torque to tear off the tires.
get the matching 400 turbo if you can, the adapters to Chevy trannys can get to $500 bucks:eek: Good luck with it.

my first was also a '68 Fleetwood Brougham,we stashed 5 bodys(alive) in the trunk into the drive-in:D

I believe those motors were very heavy too. A lot more than a standard big block.
