I've been looking for a real one of these for about a year. Walking through a yard last week i litterally stepped on this one. I put a nice lil dent in the lid. Just the right amount of rust for a rat.

I've been trying to convert it to paper element. I've done my research and read that a STP air filter (sa 326) works best for these because its 5/16 taller than all the ones it cross references with. This eliminates the air gap issue that you would have to deal with if you were to go with a shorter filter.

The problem that i am having now is that i CAN NOT find a aircleaner base that works with the filter and the lid. They say to use a "flat base" but i cant find one. Every time i do a search for "flat air cleaner base" i come up with the ones that have the raised center. Why cant flat base mean FLAT BASE?

If anyone has one, or knows where i can find one please let me know. Has to be 14" OD, and needs to fit a Q-jet, Holley, Edlebrock carb.

I just used an old aftermarket 14" base on mine. It's not flat, don't see why that would make a difference other than distributor clearance. If that is an issue you can get them plastic air cleaner spacers.

The problem im having is that the filter will not fit around the raised part of the base.

I took an old lid and cut the center out of it today, doesnt fit perfect yet. Tommorrow i'll have to ream it out to fit the carb.
