Glad I am retired from the Fire department. Years back during Floyd I had to jump in the water to pull a guy out of a over flow pipe in his pond.

But with my garage right along the Delaware river I will have to keep an eye on it.

Hang tight guys. My mother told me about a hurricane that came through New England in the 30's when she was growing up. Said they had 5 feet of mud in the house afterwards.

Hope all goes well with you.

Well the rain started this morning and has steadily increased throughout the day and the wind has picked up just as they predicted. Making me real nervous as I live in a house surrounded by large trees! Supposed to get very windy with hard driving rains around midnight.......so far they have been right on the money....hope they're not accurate about the big winds!

Hope you don't lose power. We are going to want updates on how you are making out.Best of luck to you CR.

I was living with my GF in a waterfront condo when Charlie hit. We had never really had a hurricane in this area as long as I had lived here, so I had no idea how bad they can be. We anchored my boat in the middle of the canal with huge anchors and watched it rock and roll for the duration of the storm. I was surprised it rode it out as well as it did, and the water got so high our dock was way under water.

After it was over I went over to my shop to see if we had any damage and when I walked inside I could see daylight.......the roof was gone. I also had a cherry Mustang that I had just bought for a drag car sitting outside and the neighbors roof flew off and landed right on top of it, denting the roof beyond repair.

When we drove down the streets it looked like a big bomb had gone off, debris was everywhere, and huge pieces of roofs and walls were laying in the roadway. It was a very surreal sight, to say the least.

Its 11:28 Pm Sat. getting really windy and raining hard. Electric keep going out and also keep loosing my connection.

Everyone else hang in there.

I live 150 west of the Atlantic and tho we got lots of rain and wind never lost power, prolly cuz I got a generator. 50 mile east of here it was much worse.
I worked in the garage yesterday morning until the metal roof got to rattling bad enough to worry me so I went in the house and stayed. Garage roof is in good shape this morning. Hope everybody else is ok.

Well I hope the worse is over..still getting burst of wind, but the rain has stopped. No major damage here just some broken tree branches all over the yard. Can't see my car trailer because of the limbs. Power went on and off a few times last night. Came right back on also because I have a generator! Hope everyone else made out ok

Update: went outside to look around and found my only downed tree......across my driveway!. oh well if that's the only mishap after 10 inches of rain and 60-70 mph winds, I consider myself lucky...

10:10 am Sunday. Still here. A lot of areas are without power and a lot of street closing because of flooding and downed tree. Right now I am watching the Delaware river to see how high it is going to get. My main garage and storage is along the river. So far it looks like it may be spared But not sure yet.

It is calm right now but they are calling for another 1/2 of rain and more high winds.

My father is up from the New Jersey Shore area (Tuckerton area). They were evacuated Saturday. No word on anything in that area.

I hope every one else is ok.

Been without electric since Sunday at noon! Starting to get real old. There are 3 grids in my neighborhood and two of them are on. My neighbors to the right all have electric. None on the left! Wife and kids are staying at a hotel. At least I can go there and shower.
Its ok to be a ratrodder, but not a stinky one!..:D

I made out pretty good. The electric only flashed a couple of time. The trees around me are still standing and the river never made it to my garage.

There was a lot of down trees and flooding in the area. A lot of road were closed. The main road from my house to my mothers was closed and washed out.

My father went back to the Jersey shore and said that all he had was some small branches down in his yard and it looks like the power was never off. He did say he ran into a lot of flooding and closed roads on the way home.

My one friend did loose there house to a fire. They were without power and left the house and forgot to blow the candles out. Not sure if that was the cause yet.

Yeah, glad to hear no flooding or damage HR. I finally got electric back on....you don't realize how much you rely on something until you don't have it.

Nice to hear you "weathered" your way thru....

And, You are right..... you never miss things until you don't have them.... I had my house wired for a generator, bought the generator and all the stuff in place after the big power outage in 2006..... guess what....have never used it.....I guess that is a good thing!! Knock on wood....
Anyway....glad that you guys on the east coast are getting thru this without being beaten up too badly[cl.....gotta love mother nature....

Looks like Irene has u cats in the crosshairs! Better head for the liquor store & git those generators fired up again!!!:eek::eek:

BoB
believe it or not, I did exactly that. Got spirits for my wife and me, gas for the generator. Fired it up so I knew it worked and got the power cord out. Then just settled in for what turned out to be a heckuva rain storm, but basically just that. No floods, no trees down and power out for only 3 hrs during the middle of the night. My bro in law in Vermont had a different outcome...Huge mess with flooding and washed out roads.
