Ya know ,i was thinkin[again]!
I havent bought any car magazines since i found the RRR and i have got to be savin a small fortune here!
And i get to do so much more than just look at high dollar cars that some one built just for some one to take pics of and sell to us?
The people that i get to talk to on here are great And build cars that are normal[can be drivin daily if they wanted ]and are more than willing to help ya if you need a question or 500 answered!
All i can say is thanks RRR for saving me that nagging from my wife at the grocery store bookstand [i can still hear her,you dont need another one of those dumb magazines, blah blah blah]
You guys have so much more to offer,i'll probably never buy another old magazine for $5 again ... i'm serious! Thats a whole gallon of gas man!!!

I have to admit, I have a very bad magazine habit:D I finally broke down and found a way to fund it though. I became a distributor for some of my favorites. I get 5-10 issues of them all each month and sell them to friends and then sell the back issues at the swap meet. Get all the great mags and don't end up paying a dime for mine.

I rarely buy a magazine any more, and I was a magazine junkie for most of my life. You are right about the internet taking a bite out of that market, I bet they are really feeling it.

Dan still buys tons of magazines a month, so I do glance at his, but they still don't have the appeal they once had for me. This virtual stuff on here is so much more fun, and it is in real time, not 6 month old news.

File my name under "magazine junkie". I still get a lot of them. This past winter I decided it was time for many of those I was saving (for reference don't you know) to find a new home.

I took a path less traveled. I took all of the STREET RODDER and ROD & CUSTOM issues to the local juvenile detention center. They have a strict criteria for what they can accept. No "skin" is the obvious. No staples is the other. Staples can be used to disfigure, injure another inmate, etc. In essence, a glued/bound binding.

We as gearheads need to take a serious look at our hobby & what we pass on. In case no one noticed, it's not our world anymore. Kids don't have that speed shop, neighborhood garage, junkyard, etc they can gather at like we did. How the hell are they to be exposed to vintage tin like we were?
Car shows? Get real!
Cruise nights? Same thing. "Hey kid, get the hell away from my car" is what they usually hear.

If they're going to be a captive audience, (incarceration), give their mind something to be occupied for as long as they want. Admin officials love to see me bring in a stack. "The last pile has been handled so much, the magazines look like shrapnel!" is what I'm greeted with. Because youthful offenders serve much shorter times, the turn over is greater. Hence the need for new inventory.

I urge you all to stop by & speak with admin officials/counselors. Find out what the criteria is for magazine donations.

Don't be surprised if some kid stops by your garage................then it's up to you

Just my $ .02 worth.
