hi, i am trying to plan out my frame for a 1928 ford tudor sedan rat project i am not to understanding of the coil over rear option, is there a good starting dimension as far as the frame z in the rear to fit everything under it, i want the car to be low and was told that a coil over was better then stock spring set up, the body has been sub framed to fit a 8 inch drop frame but i think i want it lower , i am kind of new to the rad rod addiction and really need advice as far as ride and frame info, thanks

Most people use coilovers because it saves the extra work of using coil springs, leaf springs, etc and having to make extra mounts for shocks. With coilovers it all comes in one neat package.
However my late father always used 26 inch leaf springs on rear, one on each side like pickups, etc. He just made the kickup he wanted then made mounts for the springs. It worked great.
I am planning to use coilovers and 4 link on my woodie project so it can be adjusted to bite like a dragster instead of sitting and spinning.
I am sure people on here know a lot more than me and can give much better advice.Good luck with project.

I'll chime in, though not to help, but to learn something else.

If you were to design the coil spring setup from early on in the project, would spring rate become an issue once you have the car together?
I would imagine the weight on the rear of the car would change quite a bit once completed..
Glass (if it'll have it)l seats, fuel tank ect.

Are the spring on a coil spring setup replaceable with different springs to change spring rates?

I went with airbags, simply because I'm so uneducated on springs and all their characteristics to make a well rounded vehicle.
