As many of you know i am building my rat off of a 84 ranger frame. I was wondering if any of you have cut 1 or 2 coils out of the springs? I know it has been done but how much drop can i get out of 1 coil or 2 coils?
I can compress it and remove it safely and have done that a few times. so how much drop??

any advice or thought are welcome

I cut one round out of a 88 Ranger once and it set down on the bump stops in the front. Not sure if thats what you want to hear or not but try a 1/2 round first and judge from there.

When you do this it will change the camber , as your wheels will be leaning in at the top . Your tires will wear out much quicker . Dropped spindles - if they make them for a Ranger - would br a much better way to lower your ride with out messing up the front end geometry .

You are right my friend, I forgot to mention that in my reply to 52 fordman.
Sorry bout that 52 fordman.

Dropped barn-beams are the ONLY way to go on any Ford truck (or chassis thereof) which has Twin Barn-Beam suspension...

Even with proper alignment specs, the damn things always seem to rapidly wear tires...Dunno why that is, perhaps only having ONE pivot for the front suspension...Keeping all four tires the same size so that you can frequently rotate them may not be a bad idea.

The unfortunate thing is that the drop I-Beams are QUITE a bit more expensive than drop spindles for an S-Truck or other similar chassis which uses the more modern SLA (short long arm) front suspension.

Hope this helps. Your truck looks pretty good so far-Are you going to run fenders on it?

Shea:)

Try Fatman Fabricators in North Carolina. He seems to make everything for suspensions, he might make em for Rangers and s-10's. I have his suspensions, front and rear, REAL happy with both!:)...........CR

Coil springs

After some research and Having FUZZ look at it I think I am going to leave it and chop the top. DMW56 did a real good job chopping his he posted all of the build pics. I am going to do mine the same way, but not going to lower the frame.

I would like to say thanks to FUZZ for coming and looking and giving me the advice and DMW56 for posting all the chop pics.

This place is great.
