I may be able to pick up this car from a family member. I was looking for a frame to put my 50 Cab on and was thinking this may cut the bill. What you think?

I wouldn't. Lots of reasons but it is not really suited to becoming a street setup, it won't fit the proportions of that 50 cab, and it would be so much easier to simply build a brand new frame out of 2 x 3 or 2 x 4 tubing.

Pick it up and make it a cool bracket/econo altered though and have some fun on the weekends racing.

How about if I were to cut out the cage, put in a seat add a windsheild and make it street legal. Minus the chute and wheelies of course.

Do you get the whole car motor an all? Is the cam and carb good for a street car? for how much $? 9" yes...but what gear ratio? changing that would be as much money as a whole used 9" with a street gear already in it. you can't really use the frame for a street car with out a lot of work. Don is correct start fresh with new 2 x 3 or 2 x 4 steel.

That car is engineered to one thing.........run down the quarter mile in a straight line. It would be a major undertaking to rebuild it to be a good handling road car, not to mention strong enough to hold a heavy body. I think it would sag in the middle as soon as you put that kind of weight on it.

Not trying to burst your bubble, but it really isn't suitable for what you want it for. Now, if you are talking about making a cool little budget bracket altered, that is something entirely different.:D

I hope Bob W sees this thread as he is more familiar with drag type cars.

I am going to look at the car on monday or tuesday to see whats there. He is going to keep the motor and trans but leave the headers. I have a small block already and a 468 that needs to be built. I quit drag racing a few years ago and would really just want to make it a light street rod. I have planned on getting some 2x3 or 2x4 tubing for the truck frame but just was curious since it was thrown out there to me. Thanks for the advice I really appriciate it. Wouldnt want to do something stupid and put me or anyone else in a bad situation.

Ill check it out and let ya know. I wouldnt keep that cage if I were to put it on the street. It would be a cruise inn only type car not a daily driver. I may pass on it since he is wanting my 4D Chevelle for a trade. If he will trade for some parts I have I would consider it. Let ya know.

I would check that frame real good before cutting the cage out. A lot of those cars the cage was part of the frame and cutting it out could make it weak,

If I did any cutting on that frame it would be with safety in mind. Now that ive had a night to sleep on it, I am not going to trade my street Chevelle for that dragster. I am going to look at the car while im there picking up my truck title. He is a wheeler and dealer so I may have some parts he needs. Will see. Thanks for any input.
