I'm using an 81 Courier frame for my build. Big block Ford mounted about three foot back from the center of front suspension. I figure the weight on the suspension will be close to what the original four banger and cab/fenders was. I do have available, a straight axle from an old Ford van. I'm not really impressed with the looks of the courier suspension and am considering the straight axle as a replacement. Is this an acceptable swap? It would probably involve cutting the frame off and replacing about four foot to mount the straight axle and springs. No problem there. Any opinions or other suggestions?? Thanks.

I send a note on your other thread. I see nothin wrong with the Courier front end, save time and money just rebuiling it. Will ride and handle better than some ol straight axle, but of course it won't be as "KOOl" lookin.;)

Fuzz is right. No matter what you do to that frame it's still gonna be ugly looking, so you might as well stick with better performance if you want to use it. Otherwise build a custom chassis and scrap that thing...

You are correct Devil. If I had the funds for a custom chassis, I wouldn't be working on this frame. My motor would be in a tube frame Comet tearing up asphalt a quarter mile at a time. But, since that's not an option on my pay rate, I guess I'll have to stick to the "ugly". If I can't have both, performance outweighs looks any day. Thanks.
