Dudes... this is a horsepower related post! Er... well... sorta!?!?! I have always thought this was one of the koolest things ever & is being built entirely with donations... NO government $$$!!! They are having a special $5M matching challenge to accelerate the process. Ck it out... his face is so large... it took 21 years to finish... just his face!!!

Some friends of mine saw that when they took a motorcycle ride out west (from where I live) this past summer. they said was awesome to see in person.

If you think your project is taking too long.....

Been by there several times - things don't seem to change much, but what do you expect. It's huge.

Great stuff there , I lived in Custer S.D. back in the late seventies before the old man Korzach passed away, I was good friends with his sons ,Adam , Joel and Mark. nice folks..! the boys have their hands full finishing what Dad started, I believe they will pull it off and get it done. Alot has been done since then.

You knew them and I didn't but Korzak started it in 1948 and 30 years later just had a hole in the mountain but did have a 60 room mansion and a thriving tourist business. The government offered to help so he could see it done in his lifetime and he declined the offer. Probably smart not to get them involved.
It's interesting to see the difference in how Borglum got Mt. Rushmore finished.
I am glad to see his boys getting after it.

Yeah, early on before he even started , Korzak asked the government to help him with his dream of carving the mountain as a tribute to the American Indians , but they thought he was freakin crazy due to the size of his project, then after he got started and it was taking shape they offered to help (they wanted the tourist dollars) ,and he told them to kiss off..! I think its cool he blasted out his own tomb at the base of the mountain and is buried there.
I talked with him once , he believed the statue was already in the mountian and it was his job to uncover it and let it out..thats some vision....!
