I was wondering as I am about to start the welding portion on this frame...Do you really need to have the front more narrow then the rear..? If so..why..?

I am working on my custom frame and I needed the front section in front of the fire wall to be 34" outside to outside. Made the motor a nice fit with the mounts tight against the rails. Do not know if it helped but good luck.

Mine runs 24 inches ID from front to back, but I have a very narrow rear.
It all depends on what rear and rear suspension you are using. Also, you need the front wheels to work with the suspension you are using, and turn without hitting the frame, or steering, and locating parts of the front end. Lastly, you need to be able to make strong motor mounts. (and figuring out the mounts of the body too).

its according what kinda front suspenion you use,,, parrell springs . or transberse spring,, the parrell springs will match the withe of the axle spring perchs, that will match the the frame although you can mount the springs on the out side of the frame,, transverse springe set up , you radious arms will need clearance, they will ride on the outside of the frame, so it need to be narrow enuff to allow that,, it just depends on the front end and the look you are going for,, oh , what i am talking about is for a straight axle not ifs!
