I`m installing a 302 in my 62 F100. Which mounting system is best - the side mounts that bolt to frame or the dropped-down tubular crossmember that welds in between frame rails ? Or is one just as good as other ?

Doesn't matter really.
Unless you think you need another cross member I'd go with the bolt on side mounts.
Besides if they're a bolt on they've been pre-engineered to fit your truck, where as a cut to fit cross member may end up obstructing something important like fuel/brake lines etc.
