F100 box?

Got the '55 f100 steering box today. It is supposed to be a direct replacement
for the A box. It is too big.Will hit the A starter if installed in the original place. Have i got a box from a larger truck? The holes center to center on the flange are 5 1/4 inches. The pitman shaft is 1 1/4.Thanks

I would ask the guy who sold you the box! Who told you it is a direct replacement? Just curious?

I don't have a 55 box to measure, but it may be time to take a tape to a car show.
