Hoping for a little help and direction on a spindle problem.

After reading a few threads on RRR & the pork site I know that the spindles I have are 1936 early small square units with cast #68 on them and the snout is 5 3/4" long. I understand that as original Ford placed the thrust bearing on the top of the spindle mounting boss ( I have no idea what they were thinking), but that's another story.

The spindles used an original pin with the steering mount on top. I will not need that for the dragster I am building. Spindle pin size is a standard 0.813".

I want to use the flat top 37-41 style pin, but this is were the problem starts.

The top to bottom measurement overall were the pin goes through is only 4.675". The area were the axle sits is 2 1/2" wide. A 37-41 pin is 5.5" long. I am going to install a thin thrust bearing in the normal position (bottom side axle).

What pin should I use? What about the pin lock location? Will I have to cut off a pin and form new lock notch to make it work?

I've used the long kingpin and cut a relocated pin lock using a thin cut off wheel in a 4 1/2" angle grinder.

bob w -- That was what I was thinking might have to be done. I would like to
use the '36 spindles as they are in nice condition and I got a set of
of hubs with new studs (no brake drum) from the Pork Site for them.

Going to Long Beach, CA High performance Swap Meet next weekend
and hope to score a few more parts and pickup my PG w/3500
converter.

Thanks for confirming the '37-41 King Pin Modification.
