Since I am using solid mounts and also incorporating my drive train as structural frame members, I decided to mount the alternator and power steering pump low and to the inside of the frame. With an electric pusher fan this will make for a really clean engine. Here is what I have done so far, no adjustment strap yet.

Do you think engine vibrations will be an issue? I know solid mounts are done on drag cars, but just wondering what you feel it will be like on the street.

Ive got solid mounts on my Oldsmobile. it doesnt have much for a cam and really doesnt rattle the car anymore then the rubber mounts did

solid mount

I did that on a Caterpillar earthmover solid engine and put a 63 chev alt bkt. on frame and 24 volt internal reg and it seems to work fine and a diesel vibrates more but dont rev far

I'll probably use a lot of nylocks and check the bolts once in a while but if the alternator doesn't vibrate off the engine then I doubt I will have a problem with it vibrating off the frame.

I've mounted the alternator to the frame before on a car with solid motor mounts. It works fine. And just to add, you can mount the alternator backwards, facing the enginre if you need the space. The alternator will function in reverse.

Once I get the ps pump on it will be ok but notice I have barely 90 degrees of belt contact on the crank pulley. That really isn't enough. Back in the 80s a lot of chevys had a similiar amount of contact and were chronic squealers. They some gomer would evertighten the belt with a crowbar and spread the cheap tin pulleys and take out the waterpump and alternator bearings.
