I was just at a friends and he was trying to find me a VW steering box he thought he had. As we were tramping around his junkyard there was a really decent looking cab with all the glass still good in it. Also the hood, fenders and grill were piled in an old p/u box. He said I could just have it if I wanted it. It is this style of IH

What could a guy do with that? My daughter has been wanting me to build a pickup with no top after she saw one. So maybe a roadster pu? That windshield is really tall, I think it would have to come down some.

This thing really has me thinking. My present build is an open car and I wanted to do something closed with a heater next. Now I'm thinking a zero cost build, just to say I did it, or to show it could be done. Not near as much work as this one tho. I already have a line on a 48=49 F1 I could use the frame, pedals, steering and front axle/brakes. Z it front and rear, get 1/4 panels from a cool 50s car for the bedsides, ( a certain 56 Merc I know about)
About 2 miles from my house is a freeby running 79 F100 with a 302/auto for the drive train and everything else.

That would be cool!

I looked at it some more yesterday. It is in really good condition. It was a 3/4 4x4 and has a very cool aluminum Ross cam and lever steering box. But it is just soo tall. It would look like a telephone booth unless I chopped it and I don't want that much work. I have never done a chop and I don't want to start with a curved winshield.
I probably need to think more about this

Both cars I haven't brought home yet and the COE is a runner and a Hemi. Maybe I'll think of something to do with the binder, trades.

My grand dad (rip) had one of those IH trucks on the farm when I was a youngster. He loved that truck. They are a little homely looking though. I like the COE WB3. That Chebby would have more interior room for you if you need it. If you could get that IH for free, I don't see how you could go wrong picking it up. That plan you have for it sounds cool and low cost.
