I have found and have at home now a 42 Chevy trunk. I want to go to disc brakes in the front. I have new calipers and booster brake set-up from the 78 Chevy truck for a donor . So what I would like to know is what way would I go about mounting the disc. I have never done any fab work with brakes in the front from scratch . I am still doing seaches but am not wording it right for the question I am trying to answer.

Thanks PorkChop

Try going to ECI or some other place that sells disc brake conversion kits. might give you an idea of what's needed.

Just don't 1/2 butt your brakes. Your life depends on it.

Ok It looks like the right parts not real sure yet. It looks like new drums for the front will cost just as much as the kit so I my just go with the kit .

hey prokchop. ifound a place that has a disco kit for 6 lug axles, it uses a late model rotor , early 70,s calibur, and a braket they make,, sadly to say someon was messing with the puter and lost the link , soon as i find it again i will post, if you buy from them about 250.00 but i think i can beat that and just but their brackets! later RTD

Classic Performance Products.

They offer kits for '47-'59 Chevy trucks, either using 5-lug CAR rotors, or using 6-lug K-5 Blazer 4x4 rotors with the original hubs (tapered roller bearing conversion is recommended).

Another link with some worthwhile info available for the old Chevys:

www.stovebolt.com

Many of the folks over there have experience with the disc brake kits for these trucks...some of 'em like to update the stopping power for safer driving.;) Search "The Hi-Po Shop" forum for threads on disc brake conversions. It will be a couple of hours' browsing time well-spent.

Hope this helps.

Shea:)

Porkchop,

Glad to help...just some stuff I've found over the years browsing different places.;)

I'm not sure, but your '42 may have the same spindle/axle setup as the '47-59...worth doing a little research into. I'm sure one of the guys over on Stovebolt will be able to tell you.

Best of luck and keep us posted![P

Shea:)
