on the one hand i firmly believe we need to do something to stave off the destruction of the planet (and ourselves), and on the other i understand we've only REALLY been recording weather for a very short amount of time(in the grand scheme of things). i don't remember myself, but i know a few people who do, remember when you could drink the water out of a lot of places without having to filter it, when eating fish everyday wouldn't give you mercury poisoning, when it was definitely going to snow a lot at least once a year where my family is from. i can only see where we are at now. they put a nuclear power plant about 20 miles away from where my mom lives, now all the ground water is contaminated. they dam up rivers (the wrong way) now there aren't as many fish. you could go on and on with facts from both sides, and really there is truth to all of it, but the only real fact is we all have to learn from the past and apply to the future using newer more innovative thought and technology to allow us to live in harmony with what is around us or eventually we just won't live anymore. some of it just doesn't make sense to me. you look at the way a dam is built, and think about the way water flows. i don't think you need to stop the water to provide the head to turn a turbine. i think if we used up to date technology we could put lots of turbines in rivers in place of one big dam and put them parallel with the flow of the water and produce just as much if not more power than we are right now. you think about how old some of the dams are, and then think about how much smaller computers have gotten in the past ten years. where i'm from they have a lot of dams they don't even use because of the nuke plant, but they are still there messing up the river. the river's old name (sinnissippi) means "clear running water", but NOBODY remembers the last time you could see to the bottom. i just think we need to change. i'm not really placing any blame, i'm not pointing any fingers, i'm not claiming to have any answers, but it's really sad. they hollow out mountains where my family is from. they rip out 2000 year old trees for nothing where i live now. they just keep building newer and newer and less and less efficient and more detrimental structures everywhere rather than use what's already there. it's really got to change. sorry for the rant, i just think about some of this a lot. i keep feathers and have family on the rez.
