I sold this car on ebay over a year ago, buyer was from Canada and paid for it. We agreed he could store it here until he could come after it, no exact time limit but a "reasonable" period of maybe 6 months or so. So I don't hear from the guy until late fall and he arranges to come. A couple days before he is supposed to be here (November) we get our first winter storm and he understandably has to cancel. I haven't heard from him again and can not find a number for him.
I don't own my place, it is my sisters. I try to keep things straight and after a year of this car sitting I need to clean up that area. After much thought I decided the best thing to do was have the car impounded. It is now at a friends legitimate impound storage yard and he will only charge the guy $50 a month if he comes after it. If it sits there until winter and we don't hear from him, I might buy it back for the storage and resell it.
Feel free to comment. I always like to hear what you guys would do.

WB,
I'd write the guy & ask hime what's up & tell him if u don't hear from him...

Got any pictures?

sounds like the legal way to go 'bout it. maybe some of these yahoo's will learn. i know we've all been thru this exact same deal... dp1

You need to send him a registered letter stateing that the car has been impounded and is in storage running up the fees.

Have you contacted him through Ebay?

This sounds reasonable. You give him a chance to respond, and go from there.

Funny how these deals tend to drag on and on, huh? You would assume the guy would be anxious to get his new toy, but evidently he isn't.

I think you have been more than reasonable. The fact you two didn't have a firm date in mind originally clouds the issue a little. Try the certified letter to the last known address, and ask for a return receipt. That will be your proof you tried.

i had a similar deal go down.
Sold a 71 scout on ebay to a guy out of state. I told him that i would store it for a reasonable period of time untill he could come get it, as long as he paid for it in full. So time went by.....it sat.....and sat....and sat.....

One day we were moving a JD850 dozer and almost backed over it. Here i am with a vehicle sittin in my yard thats no longer mine, and i almost crushed it. After that i would call him once a week to see what the deal was with this thing. Then one day a repo-style flatbed pulls into the yard, the guy takes one look at the thing and says "i came all the way out here for THAT!" I guess it cost the guy just as much to ship it home as it did to buy it.

I guess some people dont realize what a pain in the butt it can be to transport a vehicle.

Another time i sold a built 1941 dodge WC (same truck as on Gearz) to a guy in OH, i had some spare time so i offered to deliver it for the cost of fuel and food. Once again i made sure it was paid for in full before i left.

I don't have the contact info for the guy, or I would. (My bad) I misplaced his phone number and that's all I had. Ebay does not keep information readily available on sales that long ago. I think 3 months is about it, I tried to find it there.
I guess I could have worked with any issues he had if he would have just picked up his phone. I haven't had contact with him since early November. I decided at some point that I would take action if I didn't hear from him in 6 months so I let it go more like 7.

Here ya go. 38 Standard.
