Okay I have a question what is the thing at the top of the F100 brakes that your pads rest against? It has threads that run though the backing plate and is held on with a nut. The springs hook on it as well. It's like a 1/2" thick tab with threads that go through the backing plate. The tab part is like and inch long with a nub on the end to keep stuff from sliding off. Here is a pic I took. It is circled in red.

BAck picture, see the big nut? Thats the it from the back.

I AM MISSING ONE! Without it I cant put my brakes back together... I dont know what it is called so I dont know how I can get one... Sad... I know... Can someone tell me what is called? Anyone have an extra?

Thanks
Rob

I'm sure there is a proper name for that part, but I don't know what it is. You are not going to find it in an auto store, I'm pretty sure, as they never wear out. I think you are going to have to find one in a junkyard, or someplace like Ebay, and you probably are going to have to buy one backing plate.

Maybe Satanherself can help, she seems to have more car parts than General Motors. :)

I am not sure how many years used that shoe pivot that unbolts, but you will want to find the right one. Brakes are one of those things that you want to be right.

I would say it is the spring stud. You wont get one of those in a regular hardware kit.You might want to take the one off that you have and head down to your parts house and see if they have one for that year or match one up.But make sure you have it in hand.Makes life alot easier.

I found out! It's and ANCHOR PIN :D Thanks to those huys that seem to have a plethera of knowledge at the HAMB... Yes I frequent the HAMB and am not ashamed to say it. I have no problems with rules;) And those guys have been doing this much longer than I...

Thanks for your help guys!

Yeah but I couldnt find them where they said... Went to the local junk yard and they said they dont have anything this old in the yard... And that from a 1970 van wouldnt work... As far as I know the brakes are the same up 1970 ford vans... I used brake cylinders from a 70' ford van. As Of right now I am still out of luck. I have another yard to check this week. I getting really bummed... Goodguys is the middle of August here, and I planned on having this done by now. I keep running into stuff like this, and feel like I'm never gonna' finish... Okay Im done whining...

I just looked on Ebay for you to see if someone had some backing plates on sale. None that I could see. They are on there often, so keep watching.

Do you have any friends that are machinists? If I was still working at a machine shop I could have made one of those pins real cheap. See if you can find a small, local shop to build you one... or two.

Maybe we can get ahold of Satanherself, bet she has one. How does one get in touch with the Princess of Darkness? Oh yeah, send her a PM. :D:D

How many people can brag they have a direct line to h***???:eek:

Try PM-ing her.

Its from a 55' for f100 backing plat I dont have dimensions right now but I can get them. On a lighter note I have a line on one. There is a guy who used to have shop that specifically sold F1 parts and he is open on Tuesdays and Thursdays. So I am going to stop by there tomorrow,a dn check to see if he has one. Also Found out about a salvage yard out in booneyland that has really old stuff.
