-----Subject: Christmas 2011 -- Birth of a New Tradition

This is a great idea!!!!

And anyone can do it!!!

As the holidays approach, the giant Asian factories are kicking into high gear to provide Americans with monstrous piles of cheaply produced goods -- merchandise that has been produced at the expense of American labor.

This year will be different. This year Americans will give the gift of genuine concern for other Americans. There is no longer an excuse that, at gift giving time, nothing can be found that is produced by American hands. Yes there is!

It's time to think outside the box, people. Who says a gift needs to fit in a shirt box, wrapped in Chinese produced wrapping paper?

Everyone -- yes EVERYONE gets their hair cut. How about gift certificates from your local American hair salon or barber?

Gym membership? It's appropriate for all ages who are thinking about some health improvement.

Who wouldn't appreciate getting their car detailed? Small, American owned detail shops and car washes would love to sell you a gift certificate or a book of gift certificates.

Are you one of those extravagant givers who think nothing of plunking down the Benjamins on a Chinese made flat-screen? Perhaps that grateful gift receiver would like his driveway sealed, or lawn mowed for the summer, or driveway plowed all winter, or games at the local golf course.

There are a bazillion owner-run restaurants -- all offering gift certificates. And, if your intended isn't the fancy eatery sort, what about a half dozen breakfasts at the local breakfast joint. Remember, folks this isn't about big National chains -- this is about supporting your home town Americans with their financial lives on the line to keep their doors open.

How many people couldn't use an oil change for their car, truck, or motorcycle, done at a shop run by the American working guy?

Thinking about a heartfelt gift for mom? Mom would LOVE the services of a local cleaning lady for a day. My computer could use a tune-up, and I KNOW I can find some young guy who is struggling to get his repair business up and running.

OK, you were looking for something more personal. Local crafts people spin their own wool and knit them into scarves. They make jewelry, and pottery and beautiful wooden boxes.

Plan your holiday outings at local, owner operated restaurants and leave your server a nice tip. And, how about going out to see a play or ballet at your hometown theatre.

Musicians need love too, so find a venue showcasing local bands.

Honestly, people, do you REALLY need to buy another ten thousand Chinese lights for the house? When you buy a five dollar string of light, about fifty cents stays in the community. If you have those kinds of bucks to burn, leave the mailman, trash guy, or babysitter a nice BIG tip.

You see, Christmas is no longer about draining American pockets so that China can build another glittering city. Christmas is now about caring about US, encouraging American small businesses to keep plugging away to follow their dreams. And, when we care about other Americans, we care about our communities, and the benefits come back to us in ways we couldn't imagine. THIS is the new American Christmas tradition.

Forward this to everyone on your mailing list -- post it to discussion groups -- throw up a post on Craigslist in the Rants and Raves section in your city -- send it to the editor of your local paper and radio stations, and TV news departments. This is a revolution of caring about each other.

And Christmas isn't about gifts anyway; it's about the giver of all good gifts - Jesus Christ. HE made us to
Have a relationship with HIM and through HIM, to build relationships with others. This year, make it a priority to honor HIM first. Then look for ways to show your love for your family & friends by supporting Americans at the local level.

May you have a very blessed Christmas this year!

Thank you RAT'L TRAP,

MORE IDEAS LIKE THIS AND ALL AMERICANS WOULD BE BETTER OFF!!

Wish I could take credit, but I do plan to do some of the stuff it suggests. I like the idea of trying to take care of the people here rather than shipping our dollars (JOBS) outside of the U.S.
I also like how writing "U.S." spells "us". In my opinion the people running the U.S. need to start looking out more for "us" than everyone else. Here's to the USofA. [cl

Hey Rat'l trap

I have been trying for a couple of years now to support American...It typically costs twice as much as the Asian Invasion stuff...I have with the help of the internet been able to purchase a lot more than I thought I could.

There is fellow named Roger Simmermaker who is really really trying to expose all of the good that buying American good sdoes for us.

I signed up for his weekly "buy American" email he sends out. He is the really deal thats for sure.

just my 2 cents.

there was an email going around...

Not sure how true it was but stated that some media woman...20/20 or some other "investigation" type program did a house cleaning of all the china made items from a home and it was nearly empty....when they replaced all the China items with actual US made items it totaled only 60 or 80 bucks more than replacing the Chinese items.....again..don't quote me as I'm not sure how much truth there is but it seems that that minor difference seems way off....if they said 6 or 8 hundred, I might buy it.....anyone know if this crap is truth or myth....????

I remember seeing that program, Sarge. I don't recall what the number was, but the message was clear, and certainly makes you think.

I wholeheartedly believe in supporting my own community first. Some people just don't get it. For example, I shop the neighborhood hardware store. Sure, it costs a little more, but they don't sell junk, and my money stays here.

Some of my neighbors, however, refuse to spend the extra money, and drive to a big box store. They think they've saved money, but they've spent the difference and more on gasoline. Good job, Einstein.

Obviously, some people need their eyes opened. Rat'l Trap's message speaks volumes, I'll be passing it along......

I use the local Ace Hardware myself, instead of Walmart or HD too. The thing I really like is that those guys are actually helpful, and I park close, get in and out in no time, and dont have to look at the typical Walmart types, like you see in those emails! :p
Just like the little general store/ gas pump near me. His gas might be 2 cents more, but he's close, and if that store wasnt there I'd have to drive literally 16 miles round trip to get gas or something little at a grocery store/beer/wine store. Help the little guy, people. He might just live in your neighborhood and keep a foreclosure from happening right around the corner from you.
