i recently purchased a 1954 Chevy 3600. This is my first attempt at building a rat rod, so yes I'm a newbie. I am wanting to replace the front drum brakes with disc brakes. Any recommendations on which kit, or is there some other way other than a 500 dollar kit?

you could always cut the frame and weld up a nova or camaro subframe.
that way motor will be ready for a v-8 thats what i did on mine.
and that way you will have your disc brakes and you will have power brakes

Is this 3600 a 1/2 ton truck?

It's a 3/4 ton

Are you wanting to stay 8 lug or switch to 5 lug wheels? If you want to stay with 8 lug I know there are people using rotors and such from early 90's 3/4 ton trucks. You might Google it. If you switch to a half ton axle the conversion would probably be cheaper.

yes I think I would prefer to go to half ton axle.
