uh oh
time to jump headfirst into something i know nothing about.( again)
i dig old machines of any kind and have been wanting to learn to sew.
from my research
the newest this thing could be is 1941

Where's the ignition?
I've found through out my years that if I can get it started I can figure out how to run it.
Good luck!!!!

Just keep your fingers out of the business end.

I saw a heavy duty machine in an auction recently, the kind you would use to sew harnesses. But since there are lots of Amish at the sales around here, I didn't even go back the day of the sale. Besides, it was mounted in a huge table, and I don't have a place to keep it, along with what my wife would say if I brought it home.... (If I recall, it was a Geitz brand. Sound right?)

I like the 50s vintage Singers. The 401 is the holy grail and I found a good one for 10 bucks.

But the one I use is cooler looking with the same guts. All metal gears and will sew anything you can cram under the presser foot, short of harness leather. Fondly referred to as the "Rocketeer" I also paid about $20 at auction for it and it's in a cabinet that was crammed full of accessories.

I taught myself to sew a few years back (with a few tips from my seamstress sister) I just decided you didn't need a vagina to learn how to patch your own jeans.
Never heard of a Domestic but it looks like a stout machine. I don't see a belt, is it direct drive? Usually the direct drive machines have more guts. One thing to remember, they have to be threaded exactly right or they won't sew and it's a puzzle to figure out if you don't have a diagram, kinda like trying to put on a serpentine belt without the diagram.

i am not 100% fer sure
but i think that one doo-dad is the clutch?

I can give you answers for a couple of things....

Small lever with the chrome ball on the lower right is the bobbin winder, the handle is lightly held against the thread as its being wound. It keeps it snug on the bobbin and not allow it to turn into a birds nest. (Bobbin is snapped on to the opposite end of the shaft that the little tire is on.)

Stitch Regulator is the feed for your material, Forward feeds from front to back and in reverse it will feed from back to front. The numbers are the stitch size, generally #1 will give a small stitch and #6 will give a large or long stitch.

Round dial on the left....I'm not 100% sure, but where it's located, my guess is thread tension.

Directly behind the round dial on the backside of the machine should be a lever sticking out that will raise the foot so you can insert or withdraw the material.

The torpedo shaped thing with the thumbscrew switch....that's a blue dot tail light. Ok, so that's BS...I just made that up, but the rest should be golden!!:D

It's kinda fun to be a member of a Rat rod site where we can exchange sewing tips. Kool machine hope it works there is some cool car stuff that can be done if a guy knows how to sew.

it needs the bobbin case, bobbins and needles
there is a 100 year old sewing machine and vacuum repair place here in town that has everything i need
i was talking to the sweet old lady on the phone and told her i knew nothing about sewing.
she told me to bring my machine to the shop and she would teach me how to sew.

the cool old sewing machine i got a while back was missing a key part.
i found this Husqvarna VIKING 64 30 FOR $10 yesterday
it has the A attachment but is missing the other ones.
this thing is HEAVY
all i ask of it is to be able to do some hems and sew a border on some canvas.
so all it needs to do is a simple straight stitch.
gonna go get some thread today.

Is that Husky a 2 speed? My sis had one and loved it. She sewed all her boys cloths, even did 100 long riding coats for the state centennial once. In the low speed I think it would stitch sheet metal.

This is what I sew on. Most people around here do not know what they are worth and I get them at auctions or yard sales for 10-$25. The 500A

Or this one is just as good but bring a little more, the holy grail of the peak of Singer quality. The 401. You can sew upholstery and garment leather on either one, they have all metal gears. Anyone wanting to learn to sew should keep an eye out for these, parts are easy to get too. But the only part I've ever had to relace on the 8=10 I've owned was the bobbin winder tire and a missing throat plate, and the plastic pin spool holders on top.

Get some extra 16 or 18 needles too. You will break some learning to sew.
