Hi All,

I’ve yet to construct the frame but I’m thinking ahead on how I want to run the brake lines to the rear of my truck. The clean look of running them through the frame sounds appealing but how does one go about this with rigid brake line. Do you have to insert the brake line into the frame before welding it up? Just curious at this point on how it’s done.

Thanks,

Sid

We are doing something like that on my Son's 30 RPU. We are running the fuel line and wiring through the rear frame rails, but are simply terminating the hard brake lines right behind the cab and running braided brake lines, one per wheel, down the inside bottom of the bed, where they won't be seen. I'll post some pictures next time I am at the shop.

I have seen some people weld round conduit inside a c channel frame, then box it after those tubes are installed. They give them a tube to run wiring and lines through.

Sounds like a real good idea. But how are they going to fastened to the rail inside the frame? Unless it wa run inside of some plastic pipe.

I would be leary of that as vibration would rub them against the metal and cause a falure without any notice.

My thoughts exactly, that's really the main reason I'm hesitant in running them inside the frame. Plus, I'll be doing the work and I'd want to keep an eye on it to make sure everything is working properly.

Sid,
This is best accomplished by running them on a stock type frame where you're going to box the frame afterwards. Doing it when building a frame from rectangular steel creates problems but "windows" could be cut in the insides of the frame rails, brake lines secured and then weld the windows back up. Wait until Don posts his pictures and that should help you decide.
