I stopped by a friends garage today and he asked me if I could find some wheels for his ford that have the larger bolt pattern. He said the same as the 50 Merc. He was not refering to the "wide 5" pattern.

It would be great to know what to call them as I go around and talk to my other hotrod friends.

So what is the deal? 5 on 5 - 5 on 4.75 - etc. What is Chevy and what is Ford etc ?

What is a good way to measure a wheel bolt circle ?

Thanks in advance.

Well, I didn't count them up, but here's a fairly comprehensive list for ya. And by the way, 50 Merc wheels should be 5 on 5.5, as many early Ford wheels were.

Well I think I'll print off that Gastrick list, great info there.

The one pattern you asked about is the 5 on 5 1/2 bolt pattern. Old ford cars, 1/2 ton ford pu's, scout, jeep cj's some dodge trucks too.

Don't forget...

The center register hole varies in size. Old school example: The Ford "small" five-lug pattern is the same as Mopar's, but the Ford center hole is smaller than the Mopar! So, when it comes to stock wheels, Mopar wheels will fit Fords, but Ford wheels won't fit over the center register of a Mopar hub. My bro. tried that with his '69 Charger - the center broke out of the Mustang wheel, leaving him stranded (again).

That's why most aftermarket wheels don't even really use the center register - they make the centers extra large to fit everything, especially unilug ones.

Have fun!

P.S. Thanks also - I see that my wheel selection is limited for my '79 Skyhawk

here`s another one , I carry this in my wallet " just in case" at swap meets etc.
