I am about to set the motor and tranny in my 51f1. It needs to set off to the pass side 1 1/2 inches. Any help on how to do this would be greatly appreciated.:confused::confused:

this is what i used its 50 bucks but it saved alot of time and measuring
i got mine from so-cal speed shop but this one from speedway looks similar
to offset your engine just cut the tube shorter on one side
you have to cut them anyways becouse when you get the mount its really wide i had to cut 3 inches off each side to get mine to fit in my frame rails

Thanks motomech I already have the mounts. Need tips on how to set the motor and tranny between the rails. Do I block it or what to keep it from moving around. This is my first swap.

Rusty, I hang the engine/trans from the hoist and then lower them into place on blocks of wood, metal, or what ever it takes to gain the propper measurements and angles that I need. Then I build the mounts from there. Once the engine is set on blocks, you can use smaller pieces of wood or metal to make fine adjustments depending on your needs. I build the engine mounts first and then the trans mount/crossmember.

what i did was i cut my engine mount to fit between the rails then i bolted it to my engine block with the rubber mounts and all... and hung the whole thing from my engine hoist i mean engine tranny the whole assembly... then lowered it into the frame....with a floor jack under the tranny i leveled my engine at the carb base on the manifold i used the hoist to hold all the weight of the engine i got it all where it needed to be then i spot welded it to the frame
then i mounted my tranny mount to the tranny and marked it where it needed to be the tranny mount is removeable and i welded my engine mount perminatly once i did all that i unbolted the engine mount and lifted the engine out of the frame and set it on the ground and finished welded my mount...then i went back and drilled holes for my tranny mount and bolted it in and that was it i dropped the engine back in 1 last time and bolted it in

im using a sbc 307 and a t400 auto

And just to add something as a safety tip. If you are working with a complete engine/trans as opposed to a bare block and shelled trans, you might want to leave the hoist attached in case the unit topples off of your blocks during the mount fabbing procedure.

true true:D

Like was mentioned above, hang it from a hoist and block it up with floor jack or wood blocks or whatever. The main thing is to measure, measure and then measure again. When you get it where you think you want it, measure again. Check EVERYTHING for clearance : Starter mounting, distributor clearance, exhaust clearance, etc...
Measure everything one more time, then WELD IT UP ! :)
