I found a goof up, probably first of many....

I knew the wishbone hadn't been split on the Lincoln, but I thought everything was clear. Nope, looks like the tranny pan is sitting on the bone. Just a little detail somebody missed.[S I could have swore it was fitting around the tranny pan. I guess I'll just have to get the splitting kit from Speedway.

I wonder how long they drove it like that? Couldn't have been too long, as the pan doesn't look dented.

Also found out it still has the original master cylinder. I know that's going south. I got an email into Speedway about one of their disc brake kits. If it will fit, I'll probably just go ahead with a all new brake system. Was just going to do wheel cylinders and master, not so sure now. For sure no shortcuts here.

Not really surprised though, I'd figured things would show up that I didn't see before.

OMG, What in the heck were they thinking? Pulled a rear hubcap to see what bolt pattern the rear was, turns out it's a 4 lug, probably Mustang II or Maverick. That's not the bad part, look at this wheel! Holes burnt with a torch! I'm sure glad the tires are rotten and theirs no brakes. Somebody would have got hurt with this shyt!!!

Glad I have a few rears laying around. I was expecting some surprises, but damn.

Wow! Go thru that thing thoroughly! Glad your finding it this way instead of when it fails on the road.

Wow.... that is crazy, some people are just plain stupid... Did you inquire with the owner about it? I sure would, and then start probing him a bit on anything else that is a cluster____....

That would make me really angry to find that kind of work on a car...

That's amazing. They drove it this way? It's amazing the work arounds that people will come up with. I must admit, part of me would like a ride in it... just not too far.

I doubt the dealer I got it from knew anything. He's a trader, he trades for anything he likrs. He never even heard the Maverick run before we traded! I'm beginning to wonder if it was driven any except in a yard. Lots of work and money spent to shortcut on the the rearend like that. Other things look real good,so it really puzzles me why they do something stupid like that.

Wow is pretty much all I can say. NOBODY does work like that any more......well, I guess somebody does. As the guys mentioned, you need to go through that entire car, brakes, fuel system, motor mounts, suspension, etc.

There are always a few little things to correct when you buy a car, but that should be a huge red flag.

Don

Hopefully the wheels were butchered just to make the car a roller. But, do what Don says and check everything.

My guess is he grenaded the stock rear with the extra power under the hood so he stabbed a spare rear he had in it to peddle the car......wonder if the driveline is a hack job too?

The springs and hangers look good. Driveshaft looks good. Haven't got up to the tranny mount yet to give it a once over, it's raining here again.:(

Got the hood cable to release the hood, so got it up. Still can't get the trunk to open. The button pushes in, but doesn't release anything. I did take the back seat out though so I could see into the trunk. Found one small rust through place where the "x" seat brace welds to the fender well, a small sheet metal patch will fix that easily. And found a set of fender skirts in the trunk! Painted to match the car no less. The attaching hardware is rusty though, rear window or the trunk gasket leaks. Doubt I'd ever use them, but one day I might.

Also found out that the hydraulic pump for the windows and seat is missing. At least the windows are up! Guess I'll go with an electric kit on the windows, probably hunt down a electric track for the seat.

That's today's update. Planning on starting a build thread soon, may just do that today since I can't work on it right now....
