i found this new to rodding checklist on POSIES website and it spoke to me.

i really like the last one.

1 Take in as many car shows as you can,
Especially large ones.

2 Get other opinions, make friends and ask
questions.

3 Visit other shops and compare prices.

4 Think about buying a ready built car.
It is cheaper than building a car from scratch.

5 If you find a shop and they need a deposit,
they can’t afford to be in business.

I think #5 is backwards. If you have a customer that can't afford a deposit, you can't afford that customer. I was in the hotrod business for several years with 6-8 projects going on at the same time. If I had to front the money for parts & materials and make my payroll each week, I would have been out of business before I got started.

Agreed. I am running a Specialty car shop now and there is no way I'd start a car for anyone without knowing they were serious enough about the project that they are willing to put up there own money to have me build their dream. It has nothing to do with being able to afford to be in business. I just don't want to end up owning there dream.

As a former Home builder, I wouldn't even partially consider building a house without a substantial down payment. If I was a car builder, I would still have the same mindset!.....CR
