I have stalled out on ideas to change my truch just a little bit more. I'm not going to spend the money on a cold air intake, but want to make the same thing happen(getting cold air to the motor. I have played with the idea of raising the elevation of my air filter and cut a hole in the hood (the jury is out on that)
I have also played with the idea of cutting the hood and lowering the area I cut down to where the base of the air cleaner is for the same reason.(The jury is still out on that as well)

Gimmie some ideas guys......I just stalled out.

I'm not up on my Chev anatomy... but went through your 41 page build thread and there isnt a single underhood picture in the entire thing...

Could always look at doing a cia with large dia. exhaust tubing if you have a welder and such. I had a buddy in highschool who used PVC pipe to do a cai on his car, but it was a hacked up tempo so suited it just fine, along with the plywood spoiler.

don't know what ya got but if carbed, i have always liked the way the old 64 ford thunderbolts had the flex-tubing coming off the breather L&R sides and out to the inside headlamp holes.....always wanted to do that on something never have yet though.....

Some 60's GM products had air cleaners with 2 snorkles and rubber tubes were routed to the grill or I saw some guys run them under the front bumper, or as mentioned before the Ford factory racers ran them to the second headlight. But again, are carbed or not?

Not sure about the hole in the hood thing unless you add a scoop.
I remember in the late 60's early 70's the thing was to kick up the back of your hood to let more air in. Alot of guys around here did that to their Nova's and Chevelles. Could have just been a local thing.

I will have to check on the pic. Thought there was one of the engine bay...guess not..

I will see if I can snap a pic or two after work tomorrow...

CD,
We used to do that on racecars after we cut the hoods down too a sheetmetal skin...

Pistolpete,
what is a CIA ?

OK....Gotcha on the fat finger foul up...

For some reason I just have this "URGE" to cut the hood......
It's gotta be the "Voices in my head"....
they tell me crazy things to do. they are fun to talk to..:D sometime

I have told you over and over again, DO NOT listen to those voices, they always get you in trouble or hurt. Besides, they like to talk to me more anyways... :p Uh Huh, you are always thinkin I am talking to myself but I am not, just in a deep conversation or arguement with the voices.... :D

Just cut the hood flate ,theres still plenty of them out there if you get tired of it and wanna go back stock[god forbid we would do such a thing?]
What about luovers in the hood ,ever seen one with louvers?there killer if done right !
One time on an old 77 chevy truck i had i wanted a cowl hood really bad but couldnt afford one ,so i took one of the extra ones and cut it up and made one, actually turned out real nice!
Or have you ever seen ''corvette summer '' ?I always liked the hood scoop on that car ,differant and wild ,i think that you could do it if you take a little time!
You could put an buick reagal or monty carlo rear end under it and minnie tub it for 10'' or 12'' wheels in the rear ,it s a cheep semi pro street look and farly easy to perform ,you dont have to even cut the frame on them trucks to go with the 33's that i got for mine!
Have you looked into air bags yet? I have some cheep ideas that may help you try that without spending a fortune ?

Or if your really ready for some thing differant you can always chop that sucker finally!!!! say mabie 8'' or so??????

The thing is that I have a cut off wheel (or 3) and it won't cost anything but time. I don't have, or know of anyone that has a louver press.

I'm just bored and bogged down right now I guess.

Can you get hold of an extra hood ? If so just get it and just have some fun cuttin on it ,make a one off hood scoop or some thing!
I guess that's why some of us have more than one project, seems like when i get one to a certain stage i loose momentom or interest in it and just work on one of the others for a while till something spark my interest and i head back into it.
On my old 77 that i had i took an old road sighn [aluminum]and cut it up and made my dash inserts, i used a cut off wheel or 3 on that project and it was fun too ,i just sanded and polished it out when i was done.
Mabie some reverse hood henges might be a cool project ,but mabie not would be hard to work on the motor then.

Is this what your talking about the ram air style air-cleaner and hoses used on the chargers back in the day?
