but it still makes my stomache hurt to think that the next 3 months we will be down $221 / month on average. But on the bright side, no more warranty dump truck frames, no more 60 - 72 hour weeks with a 1 hour ride each way! I will be 7 minutes fromt the house and health care is 100% paid. So here goes![cl

Scared me! I thought you were going to have to swear off rat rods or something!

Toad

Hahaha! nope! I should have 20 more hrs a week to scrouge rat rod deals. Like the 41 olds flat head straight 8 for sale up here. runs, with trans, front frame rails, radiator and front axle, $650![cl

on a side note, the wife just called, her 98 suburban made a grinding noise and now no reverse. I was hoping to get one more year out of it with no major repairs as it is at 212K miles now! oh well. [S

I think you will make out better, even at the lower pay rate. Being that close to home saves gas, plus you can maybe come home for lunch. The health benefits are MAJORLY important.

I tried to stress to my Sons when they were younger that the benefits are just as important as what your paycheck amount is. Now that they are getting older and going to the Dr. more often, and buying prescriptions, they understand exactly HOW important health benefits are. For example, Dan just had a prescription filled that would have cost him over $ 400, and he only had to pay $ 10. You can't put a price on that kind of savings.

Good luck on your new job. :D

Don

Congrats John! You'll be better off in the long run...heck just an extra 20 hours a week to scrounge is worth it

Money isn't everything...

...as long as you have plenty of it:p

Reminds me of a Hank iii song "workin real hard ain't hard to do, when you got a good lotta money comin to you."

Congrats on the new job. I made a switch 2.5 years ago now to be a 7 min drive from home, the time you have extra in a day is crazy, even if it is only an extra hour, not to mention the gas. I was a 45 min drive each way, and saved a fill up a week. I would agree to what others have said about health benefits, a couple prescriptions or visits to the doctor and the money difference will be made up.

Hey I resemble that remark..just kidding really...I am a neck....was a former drunk too...but I gotta say sometimes you gotta step back to go forward...I did with the last job change I did back in 2000. Took a huge cut in pay but in the end...much more stable too...a lot less stress....stress will put you in an early grave..
Good luck with the new gig.
