I've got a neat story about three Mercedes 6x6 cars.
I had my 93 dodge cummins truck with a bent frame on Craigslist as a donor truck as it wasn't worth fixing to drive. I got a call one day and the man just simply stated he wanted to buy my truck and would pay me to deliver it to Auburn IN. He didn't ask any questions or make any small talk, just that he wanted my truck and wanted it delivered. I thought for sure it was some kind of scam. I went along with it and delivered it the next day. Once I headed to auburn I realized that the address was for cruize auction park. (Google it if ya don't know what it is). At this point I called the guy back as I was for sure it was a scam. But he assured me it wasn't and that I should go to a certain gate and call him. I did and I was sure no one would answer. But when I arrived there was a grey haired man on a golf cart awaiting me. He escorted me to a building on the back lot and had me pull the truck in. As I am pulling in I notice all kinds of high end cars all around me. There was easily a million dollars in the front portion of this building. As I am awaiting the punch line he ask me to follow him to the back so he can pay me and do the paper work. We entered the back portion of the building via a service door. As I was walking back I noticed a odd looking 1930s car facing me. Once through the door I realize there is three of them and the are 6x6s. I was thinking "wtf are you building" . He pays me for my truck without ever seeing under the hood or anything. Then begins to tell me about the cars. They are Mercedes and originally had straight 8 gas engines but no parts or engines can be located for them. So here's where my truck comes in. They are putting twelve cummins in these cars as they fit well and look "factory" to a novice. As we talk he casually tells me that these are the last three known to excist that belonged to Hitler! My 500k mile engine will be going in Hitlers 6x6 convertable! The grey haired man turns out to be "Dino" who is a bit of a legend in the car world. He helped design T birds for a long time if I remember correctly. He was hired by cruize to do the restoration of the three Mercedes so that they could be offered as a set at auction. The auction sadly was a flip for them and they lost money. The three sold for $9million and went over seas to a collector in the Middle East.
When I get home I will see if I can find any of the pics that I took. I still chuckle at the fact that my old work truck motor is now powering a Mercedes that Hitler rode in.
