This is my daily driver, needless to say... it's not quite "stock"! On my way to the office this morning a young guy in a new red '07 Shelby Mustang pulled up to the light next to me & started revin' his motor to race. I flat strapped it on him not once... but twice! 0-60 I smoked him so bad I was surprised he wanted to try again! Sweet... 0-60 I put 5 car lengths on him both times! I will definitely be smilin' ALL day long!!! I'm sorry but if they're gonna badge a car a "Shelby"... it should be able to back up that badge! : - >

My guess, on the mustang's part is driver error.... oops, did I type that outloud?

Ahh, I mean good job Tripper, I knew you could take him!

( I hope you know I am just kidding with you trip)

To answer my own question, I found this:

Unlike the late-1960s GT500, the 2007 GT500 doesn't rely on a massive 428-cubic-inch (7.0-liter) V8 to juice its rear tires. Rather, it uses a small-block, 5.4-liter V8 that's basically a detuned version of the engine from the GT supercar. On the GT500, supplier and cost concerns required the use of a wet-sump oil system (instead of dry-sump), a cast-iron block (instead of aluminum) and a "Roots-type" supercharger with 9 psi of boost (instead of an Eaton "screw-type" with 13.5 psi). But the GT's four-valve aluminum heads transferred over unchanged to the Shelby GT500, as did many smaller items, such as the piston rings and bearings. The result is 500 hp, 480 pound-feet of torque and a mid-4-second 0-60-mph estimate. Assuming the GT500 makes good on that claim, it would be the quickest car under $50,000.

I bet this make s you feel even better.

My car has 450hp, built 700R4, 4-link 12 bolt with 3.73:1! Must have better traction cause I hole shotted him & was still pullin' away till er... much faster! And my car is definitely under $50K. I have to say... I was very surprised! I thought it would've been much closer!

Thats too bad!.................

I mean about you having to work on a Saturday......LOL The kids driving these new cobras nowadays are just plain stupid, one next to me yesterday was spinning his tires at every stop light (powerbraking) and spinning them taking off fast and getting sieways from the light.............ALL THIS ON ICE!!!!!!!!!!!!! Idiot

Good job Trip. In the 70's I had a 66 Vette with a 435 horse 427. Guys with there ponies would want to race. I usually told them I would like to but I had to clean the Mustangs out of my air cleaner, then wait for the light to change and smoke em every time. It was sad to see them make a boo boo face.

Got smoked!

CD,
My old room mate had a '69 427 Vette he had done alot of work to & it had around 650hp. He of course smoked everything in site until one nite he kept messing with this rich guy in a Ferrari Daytona. He kept eggin' the guy on until he finally had enough & left us in the dust. I laughed all the way home. My buddy didn't think it was quite as funny! There's *always* someone faster, one day u'll meet 'um!!! ; - >

You guys are crazy!!If i were to try doin that now days i'd get busted for shure. But when i was young and dumb .......I used to think i was bad news in my big block 4 speed chopped chevy truck ,till this dude in a charger showed me what being fast really was!!!!my buddy laughed at me all the way home....

Sounds like you spanked him good Tripper. :D:D These guys go out and buy a factory car and think they are Don Garlits or something.

When I drove my '27 it had a fair 302 in it with some mods, and I would get these guys with 5.0 Mustangs wanting to play around all the time. I would usually just snicker and let them go, but one day this kid is reving his engine and I said to him "you aren't real good at math are you?" He said "Huh, what do you mean?" I said "well, I weigh half as much as you and have more HP, what does that tell you?" He pulled away a little slower after that. :D:D
