I get to look over, grease, adjust and change the oil in this 32 buick with a straight 8. They asked around the shop and everyone else is like "No way!". I said no problem![cl

If you work with the goobers I do, they only know how to plug the snap-on scanner in and read the codes. I am a mechanic not a technician.

haha! Well put, well put. Most here dont even know what a carb is or how it works.

Get this, the buick owner is 85 years old. Every 3 years he drives this to nebraska to visit his sister! he has owned it for 53 years! The dealership owner tried to buy it he said no. The dealer owner is a billionaire. I don't know what he was offered but it was a quick no answer! Good for him!

pretty cool--and i know what ya mean--if it can't be "plugged in" many techs won't have a clue......

glad to see you not only working on it for the guy, but proud to do so,

a hardy salute from this RRR member goes out to ya.... [cl[cl[cl[cl

most of them did just that. Prevailing sentence was " I don't know where to start nor do I want to know". My philosophy is all cars are just a collection of nuts and bolts, my job is just to find out what order they go in. Same goes for tractors, lawn mowers, dishwashers, wives, houses, etc. Ok maybe not the wives but the rest fits!

What was it doing in your shop?

So what was it doing in your shop any way? If most of the people you work with are so bad why did the owner bring it to your shop? Not saying it is cool just want to know why?

The dealer I work for was a diferent name/owners before 3 years ago. The old dealer was in business for 53 years and had a bunch of techs that had been here before Christ was a corporal. They actaully rebuilt the straight 8 here about 12 years ago. The onwer figures it has always been dealer serviced so he still brings it to the dealer. Since the name change there is only 2 other techs that stayed. One has been here for 47 years. I am one of the "new" guys. Most of the other "new" guys are all 10 years younger than me and have no interest in working on or knowing anything about the older cars. heck, most of them haven't seen a carb or a distributor let alone set the dwell on a points set up! I just happened to have a background in growing up working on stuff from the 1933-1952 era due to my fathers resto shop. Just so happens that I make a living at a GM dealer (I am a die hard GM fan although pre 38 fords are cool). All things mechanical interest me no matter what time they are from.

good.

I thought the owner was like out of some old horror movie or something and did not know times had changed and just pulled up and said "can you look under my buggy to see what is wrong with it." in a vampier way. LOL. Thanks. Good stuff.
