Just realized today that I have started checking out the stuff in the scrappers trucks as they drive by looking for my scrap. Just in case they might have something I could use. Is that wrong?

I already have a habit of snagging hardware off of furniture and cabinetry I spy in the alleys, but eying the scrap truck is a new level I think.

Those duma$$ scrapers throw away some good stuff around here.
One guy came past here last year to pick up a couple vehicles. I asked him if he ever go around any old pre-war cars. He said he had just crushed a couple hundred 2 weeks before for a guy, mostly 30s and 40s

20 years ago i told a hole in the wall scraper what he was lossing now he owns a few wrecking yards he would leave wrecks in my yard for 3 days at a time so i could remove any parts need all junk to him back then

We call that "dumpster diving". Fortunately my in-laws can't criticize me for seeing the value in old scrap. They are famous for pulling stuff out of dumpsters and off the curbs to refurbish and sell at flea-markets. Truly amazing the nice stuff some people will throw away....and even more amazing that you can resell it to other people for a fat profit!

Dumpster diving. Just last week I got 2 new shovels screw drivers wrenches. I am bad about cutting the ends of cords off of things for later use. Always need a plug

I tell ya, last summer, those scrappers were starting to tick me off. They would come right into the shop and ask if they could have my scrap steel. not buy....but have me give it to them.... a friend of mine had about 25oo lbs of copper stolen from inside his shop. The had to open the doors and drive a truck in to get it.

More along the lines of what this thread is about.....last fall i was talking to a guy who scraps on the side, and i ask him if he's seen any pre-war cars or trucks. The damn fool tells me "I just scrapped a model a two weeks ago"

Went to another guys place where there had been rumored some old tin. When i asked him if it was true he tells me that im 15years to late. Crushed it all. I noticed he still has a garage with stuff piled against the walls so i ask if he has any old tri power set ups. His response "threw em all out" Asked if he had any old caddy or dodge motors....."threw them out too"
