hey guys,

i know i need to tip the king pins/ axle and pinion but i dont know how much.

i kick the top of the king pins back ? how far?

the pinion goes down? how far?

help me out guys
thanks

I assume you're talking about the front axle, right?

Front axle, since it's not a drive axle, doesn't have a pinion angle, it's got caster. Get an angle finder and put it on the axle bosses and tilt the axle back until you get about 7º. King pin angle isn't adjustable on solid axles.

thank you

i am looking for the answers for both front and back.
front axle, check

rear pinion?

i seen a thread about the relation ship with the tranny, ill check that here shortly.

Tilt the engine/transmission down 3º and tilt the rear pinion angle up 3º. The axis of rotation of engine/transmission and rearend need to be parallel, but not colinear.

Yep. Get at least 7 degrees on the front axle. I prefer 8-10. Tranny tailshaft 3 degrees down, pinion 3 degrees up. This insures your u-joints will work properly. Good luck!

man oh man.

i just got in from the garage. the tranny is 3* down and the pinion is 5* up. ill just have to tweak it a little

thanks for the help guys.

Ideally, they should be the same, but I have had some mismatched ones over the years and a couple degrees isn't the end of the world. Look at some of the jacked up pickups running around with very different angles. 3 and 5 should be ok.

you can to change the camber on a solid axle. you just have to WANT to! it involves a chain, a bottle jack and a willingness to bend stuff. or.... you can take it to a heavy truck/ RV shop. those guys have been bendin camber into and out of solid axles for a long, loooong time.
