Checked my kingpins today (63f100) - one moves in the axle boss.....ALOT. So my axle boss is egged. Any suggestions?

I may just try beating it back into shape for a temp fix. Probably going to see if I can find another axle somewhere close.

Isn't there supposed to be some kind of lock bolt to hold the king pin like the older axles? I read someplace where a guy heated and beat the king pin boss back into shape so guess it can be done as a permanent fix. Good luck!

Yeah, there is a lock bolt, but that's to keep it from moving, not to tighten it up. Although I've heard you can force it in to tighten it up for a temp fix. Kinda wonder if the locking bolt is worn out too.

I'm not sure how much movement is at the axle, but at the tread it's about 1/4-1/2".

What's the cause of it egging the boss anyhow? Bad shims?

Can't you true the king pin boss oversize and peplace the kingg pin with the appropriate oversize or are they not available any more?

I'm thinking just finding a replacement axle may be cheaper - thing is the risk of getting another bad one.

Recently one of the magazines (Rod & Custom or Street Rodder) did a write up on that very problem. They machined the kingpin hole out and pressed in a brass sleeve, bored it out and sized it back to standard kingpin size. Just like new when done.
