He also received the Bronze Star; the Purple Heart, the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, the World War II Victory Medal and the Combat Infantryman Badge for his army service during World War Two.

As I had stated in the "thigs We Remember" posts. Gunsmoke was the first TV show I saw in color!!! RIP Mr. Arness!!

Pretty sure I heard someone say The DUKE suggested Arness for the role of Matt Dillon, after he turned the part down!! They were good friends!!

I liked James Arness as an actor. I recently found out that Peter Graves (Mission Impossible) was his brother. I had been watching them both for years and never knew it. After finding out, I could see, and hear, the similarities.
