Mercury has really been the infamous step child for Ford and now another brand that used to mean performance is slipping away. I had a feeling this was going to happen when they handed the brand over to one of the Ford great grand daughter's several years ago. They tried to doll the brand up and that went nowhere! Mercury... RIP!

Just saw a 57 Merc convertible at a little car show we went to yesterday. Man, that thing was HUGE! Had the continental kit, turnpike cruiser skirts, and all. I had forgotten how big those things really were.

had not heard about the death of mercury--but in all financial reality it makes sense--the mercury line of today is only re-badged fords.....similar to the gm problem

back "in the day" mercury's were different enough to interest people in a different brand......

Just shows how stupid Ford has been too. Bunglers all but now the Japanese have slipped on the preverbal bananna peel and give the American car makers a chance to slip back in. I just hope they don't screw it up again this time!
