Well it's old tech. Used to be common before tempered glass became available. Goes with little white hexagon tile floors and tin plate ceilings in banks and drugstores from a time so different from now.
Never in cars but why not? :)

Stops alien abductions? So if i would of had it in my windows i might not have gotten this implant in my left ear that hurt for three days? :( Actually have one.

I remember the wire glass - didn't realize they quit using it. Just wasn't sure if there was a reason for it as a windshield. I do get it now - BECAUSE HE COULD!

Back when...

More technology from that period. Nobody doesn't remember these right?

My dad always had one of those bags hanging out front when we traveled.
Too bad this isn’t a front shot, cause I know that water bag is hanging out there.

Slightly different contraption my dad had for “camping”, my brother & I on top.
Seeing as this was a trip up the California coast, where it is cool, no water bag.
Ah, yes, the “good old days”...

Hey 22, looks like your parents may have bought a copy of this book I have by Ford Motor Company in 1957. Pretty cool book, before campers and motor homes.

Cycledog, that looks like a pretty cool book, and definately something
my father would have done.
I will ask him about it next time I see him.
BTW, that is my mom at the front of the car, and my grandmother
handing me something.
Thanks for sharing that. '22

That glass looks like GPW glass. Windshields here in North America HAVE to be AS1 laminated safety glass. Even old stuff coming over from across the pond should be converted from tempered to laminated. Tempered glass for a windshield is a BAD idea. GPW is just worse. The guy's looking for an eyesocket full of problems from that next big stone. Do I know what I'm talking about ? Well, I've been in the autoglass trade for 23 years. For what it's worth, that GPW doesn't even look cool in my opinion. But then again, maybe it's just the glassman in me saying that.

Second one i have seen now. Can't be legal or safe in windshields. Would like to use it in the side and rear of the model a tudor. I have a safty plate windshield but no other glass to compare but i think it was originally just ordinary standard glass. I have seen old windows cracked all the way thru.
