I've always loved those little tractors. You should get a flathead conversion for it and have some V8 power.

Ive got a 52 model. My dad makes fun of it says"That thing is just big enough to get you in a bind" or "It wont pull its self out of a wet paper sack"LOL, but its great for brush hogging.

Always loved those old Fords. I remember riding one as a kid and "powershifting" up through the gears. I don't think that was recommended in the owners manual.

As previously stated - can't kill them - we tried!

They are handier than a shirt pocket, I have a 640 which is about the same as your 8N only newer (1957) My biggest gripe with them is no live power and you have to use an over running clutch on the pto for a brush hog or it will push you right through a fence. Also the lowest gear is too fast for any mowing in thick growth. I had an early 4000 once and it was a great tractor, about the same dismensions only heavier and about 46 hp, plus it had semi live power, 5 speed and power steering.

Nice tractor! [cl I was looking for one of those when I bought my 1955 International . Mine has a power up and down 3 point, where the Ford is power up only, gravity down.

I just noticed yours is a flathead, must be a 9N or wartime 2N with 8N front wheels/tires. Is it a 3 speed or 4 speed.
Have you seen the ones with a flathead V8 conversion?

I read somewhere that those flatheads were "1/2 a v-8" and used the same pistons as a flathead V-8. They were 110 cubes which is 1/2 of a 221 v-8.

Correct?

Sweet looking tractor, what year is it our fearless leader?

Is that an 8N.... about 1950?

'Yep... '52 8N

Place I worked for years ago used to buy old tractors. They would repair any problems, give them a fresh coat of paint and resell them. Did quite a few of those Fords and they always sold in no time.

good tractor is nice to have around!!! I was just out getting some use outta my John Deere Friday!!! Look around on the list you can pick up a front loader for one of those tractors for a couple hundred bucks! Then the uses for one are endless!
