I interviewed for that marina job a while back and we have been keeping in touch but they weren't ready to do anything quite yet because of not having a solid lease on the place yet. Got a phone call today and they tell me they have been trying to call me for two weeks! I didn't get any messages, but I told them I didn't know how to work my phone, so they just called and never left one.

Anyway, it looks like they will be signing a firm lease in the next two weeks, so they have started preparing an office for me already. I sure hope this works out finally, I'm pretty burned out on this retirement stuff. I'm also not used to watching my pennies and that is the hardest thing to get used to.

So, even though I won't have as much time to play with my cars, I will at least have a few bucks to buy some of the stuff I need to build them. It's the age old problem, either you have the time and no money............or you have the money and no time. I am really looking forward to getting a paycheck again and having some purpose to my life. You can only watch so much Judge Judy and game shows. :D:D

Good for you Don. It's nice that something is working out there.

First I had the time, but no money.
Then I had the money, but no time.
Now I don't have either.

Thanks guys. I thought the deal might be dead for a while, you know how it goes, everybody wants you but has to "figure out how we can afford to hire you." But it looks like their building issues were just holding them back. I sure hope it is a go this time.

This is for all of you younger guys who are looking forward to retiring........It isn't all it's cracked up to be. Everytime somebody would tell me they just retired my standard comment was "Boy do I envy you." I figured it would be cool to not have to go to work all day and be able to play with my toys. That lasts for about 6 months.

I really now understand why so many people retire and die soon after. I have aged more in the past year of being off work than I did in the previous 10 years! I get no exercise, I get up and go to bed whenever I feel like it, so I now sleep in till 10 or 11, where I used to get to work by 7 am. I am stiffer and have gained weight because of not moving around as much as before.

I also have lost purpose in my life. I used to know someone was depending on me to be somewhere every morning. Now I sometimes don't even know what day of the week it is. When I was working I felt important and alive, I did my job and looked forward to going to work every morning. Now, my biggest goal is to make it to the weekend so the Kids and I get to hang out and work on our cars.

In short, I hate not working and really can't wait to get back to it again. It is also fun to socialize with your coworkers every day and feel you are part of a group. As you can tell, I'm really looking forward to getting back to work. :)

I like good news. Sounds like its time to set the ol alarm clock. Mine goes off at 3:45am, I'll give ya a call Monday morning.:D Of course it will be 6:45 at your house so it wont be all that effective I guess:rolleyes:

Good to hear the good news, Don. Hope this works out. No matter what some of my co-workers say, I can wait to retire for quite a while.

Well done!

Congrats Don - I hope it is worth the wait... I'm sure it will be.

I know what you mean about retirement - I have seen many older good friends who have retired and lost the will on the other hand a few have kept busy and "lived forever".

I am only 43 (next month) but I already know what I am going to do if I am forced to retire - the National Motor Museum is only 20 miles away and have a volenteer program in the museum and archive depts so will put to use the knowlage of my life in the motor trade (26 years so far) for their benefit... :D

Thanks a lot guys. Yep, yesterday was full of good news.......first the job thing, then I was able to score a Billetproof registration from ratty 46 that he can't use (thank you ratty......hope to see you there next year :)) and finally I found a hotel reservation in that area for the two nights of the show. Dan and I are going to go in my T.........gonna have to pack light as there won't be much room for luggage. :D Thinking about using a small sports duffle bag strapped to the top of the fuel tank.

Biggles, what is the retirement age and package in England? Here is it 65 1/2 or you can go at 62 like I did and take a smaller payout. How does it work over there? Do you guys work M-Fri 40 hour weeks?

Don

Life's tough!!!

Yeah Don... things are really tough & room's tight when you have to haul around those swimmin' suit models too for u're display! ; - >

Thank you. Supposedly Tuesday I am going back over to finalize salary and stuff, and they tell me we are getting close. I sure hope so, but after being off work for a whole year now it is gonna be tough getting back in the groove.

If it is meant to be it will happen. :):)
