I picked up this axle today and I'm having trouble figuring out what it came out of. It's 5 0n 4.5" lug pattern and is marked "Ford" in the casting, it' 58" WMS to WMS and measures 10" from top cover bolt to bottom cover bolt. My best guess is an early Explorer 8.8, the spring perches aren't factory.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

don't forget the 8.8's lil brother looks very similar but measures in at a 7.5 ring gear

i really couldn't tell from the pics, but it is most likely one of the 2...if there was a tag on it, that would say-but you already knew that;)

also some explorers (don't know how many) had spring under axle perches for what it's worth...

The cover looks like a 8.8, I will look at the rear under my ranger to make sure.

I could be out of a explorer with the spring pad on the bottom.

Is there a tag on one of the cover bolts.

No tag, those gasket pictures are turned sideways...it appears to be a 7.5.
