I have been an avid car person for 40 years , and am now working on a 45 chev truck on an s10 from that I want to turn into a mini semi , any Ideas on how to install tag axles or any info would be great

Welcome from Edmonton. Have a look at my build thread in my signature below, I have a '46 GMC on an S-10 frame.

As far as installing tag axles, I think this will require a lot of work with the S-10 frame. I think you would be best to ditch the stock leaf-spring suspension, as the S-10 leafs are quite long. This might work best with a modified 4-link, with the 4-link for the back axle essentially being backwards. I also think extending the frame (and length of the truck) may be necessary. What length of S-10 frame are you using? Is the truck going to have a box and fenders or a flatbed? Airbags or solid suspension? This is a complicated question you're asking.

Depending on the ride height and where the axles end up, you might need to bob the back of the frame and add on a straight section of rail to get enough room to mount both axles (it's probably more clear in my head).

welcome from ri as for the tandem idea, a tag axle that swivels may be an option because if it doesn't it may not steer well. the problem with a swiveling tag is it may not backup well. just a thought. good luck

If it's a tag axle, then both wheels will rotate independently and it should have no effect on steering. It's not like you're putting a solid bar connecting both wheels.

Funny you mentioned tag axles since I JUST saw this a couple hours ago. It's pretty sweet!

If you zoom in (sorry, no other pictures as I was driving), it appears the front shackle mount for the rear axle is mounted on the back of the front shackle mount [S

I also noticed that he has a little larger tires on the rearmost axle to compensate for the rake in the truck.

Also, notice only one axle is driven. That'll save a TON of headache.

Could you maybe mount the forward axle leaf spring out the outside of the frame, then mount the rear axle springs on the inside of the frame? This way you can keep the axles close together to save from adding a bunch of length to the frame?

That's not how it's mounted. I zoomed to original size on your picture, and I can see that the front set of springs are mounted on the outside of the frame, and the rear set of springs are mounted directly under the frame. It's an optical delusion (illusion) that makes it look like the rear spring is connected to the shackle mount of the front one. I'm also thinking the tire size is an illusion due to the differing treads, they appear the same size when looking at closer magnification. The springs should take up the rake anyways, you would want to size match the tires on both tag axles.

A "Tag" axle is non-driven, by definition, it's just there for extra load capacity (or looks).

That's exactly how the one in the pic above is, if you zoom way in.
