Whats a nice way to tell a friend not to hack up a nice car with out being rude or start a fight?? A friend of mine bought a chevelle that has some sedimental vallue to me as a child. And they are capible of making a nice driver out of it but there to lazy to do it right??

Not your car.

If it meant so much to you why didn't you buy it. Make him an offer to buy it or just hold your tongue ,cause it ain't your's to decide how it is to be built.

This is probably just one of those cases where I would just let it go since it's someone elses car. Since he is a friend I would say the best you can do is offer an opinion on how you think the car would look good and then leave it. I don't consider what another fella does with his own car my business. My advice is to just relax and let it go man.

How about a combination of the two, offer to buy it stating the sentimental valve and your desire to see it stay a driver like it was when you were a kid.

Just tell him what you think. Yeah it's his car and he can do what he wants but it's your opinion and your freedom of speech.
I tell people all the time that they are building something that looks just plain goofy or what ever, lots of otherwise nice folks have no good sense about things that shouldn't be done to a car.

I guess it depends how good the friendship is. If you respect each other's opinion, you should tell him what you think, and he should be willing to hear it. If that can't happen, there's no hope for the car or the friendship.

I agree with Dr C, it all depends on how close you two are. There are things that I could say to my best friends that I would never say to just friends.

Ultimately, he owns it and if he wants to turn it into a spaceship, that is his perogative. But, maybe if you tell him of your attachment to it, and if he isn't likewise attached, he might sell it to you. But bottom line , it is his call as it stands on what happens with it.

??? I'm really surprised at all the friendship referrences. If he's really your friend, how good a friend is he, or the friendship is doomed etc.... If the car means all that much to you, you should have bought it yourself or tell him your heart is attached to the car would he sell it to you. If not, it's his property. You're friendship should not be in question either way. What the hell are you guys thinking anyways?

Criticism can sometimes end a friendship. Maybe he wont like your opinion on what he is going to do to the car. Friendship is more important to me than someone hacking up a car. Maybe buying that particular car isnt an option.

i agree with what dr and cr said. Butv it bums me out cuz i know they are capable of doing it alot better. I mean there other car is a camaro that cracked in half once and i dont know how the windshield is staying in it. I showed the car to this person figuring it would be in good hands and it that it would be nice for them to have a solid car for once.

i offered to do alot of work on the car for free but im not doin work half assed. Next thing you know there going around saying that i did all the work on it giving me a bad name. Im just going to keep my mouth shut and not really help unless they need a hand a night here and there

"Next thing you know there going around saying that i did all the work on it giving me a bad name."

It is what it is :(
Speakin from experience, they'd stay my friends but, I can assure you I'd not do any work for them ;)

This is a good option. It gets the point across without flat out sounding like you are telling him what to do. Of course if it were one of my friends I'd have no problem ( nor would they ) with just saying , " What ...are you stupid. You'll never get it right so you better sell it to me ".
