no 'glass' cars ??

Interesting. I have not heard or read anything of the sort. There might be some confusion with interpretation of some of the proposed kit car/street rod legislation in some states. For the most part, registration of such vehicles becomes easier under the SEMA sponsored proposals, not more difficult. I have heard nothing that would indicate fiberglass cars would be deemed unlicensable.

I might be missing something here but arn't most new cars mostly plastic anyway. At least thats what it looks like when you see a wrecked one.

I think this has more to do with titling Kit cars. They will have to be titled and registered as the year they were made and must meet all DOT regulation regarding emissions and safety. Which for the home builder would be impossible.

What they are looking for are fiberglass cars with original titles. Instead of being licenced and titled as a 'homebuilt, kitcar, custom built' or what ever, it has been licenced as an original vehicle. An illegal little practice at best. Yeah I know people sell titles and what not, but it is illegal to transfer the VIN and title to another vehicle. Yes, you will likely get away with it when it's done between two original steel bodied vehicles. But when one is fiberglass, (and we know Henry didn't build any of those) it's a bit of a stretch. But the real kicker is, it's the taxes not being paid that has everyone in an uproar. What surprises me, is the fact that people are selling titles so openly and haven't been stepped on real hard yet. I think it's something that you'll see in the near future though. For the states or provinces that don't have an easy or reasonable licencing system in place for the homebuilt, kitcar, or custom built, this is the situation you have created. Your behind the times, get with the program! And while I'm at it, the 'shock rod' and 'crap rod' versions of the rat rod movement are a calling card to the powers that be for the elimination of the rat rods, hot rods, traditional or other wise. There are people that don't want us doing this, quit giving them the ammo to shoot us down. If we can't police ourselves, it will get done for us. Count on it. Sniper.
