I'm parting out a 76 Scout for the axles to use in my 40 panel. If the 196 four banger runs decent, I will be trying to think of something to do with it. Has anyone ever seen one of those little weirdos in a rod?

It would be worth it! Those odd engines are attractive to people at shows because it's something different. I've got a rod that I'm putting back together that has an opel engine. I'd say put it in a little roadster pickup.

Its one of those 'V8 cut in half' motors. Pontiac made one late 60s-early 70s from the 389. Worked on the Pontiac version when I was wrenching for a Dealer in school. I think good motors, cheep to run. IH parts were un handy to get back then, had to go to an IH dealer, and regular parts stores didn't handle them. Fun to look at.

Nice cross flow head, wouldn't be to hard to make a cool intake with some side drafts and a set of headers. Maybe this week I will see if I can light a fire in it. I got a reem of paper work out of the glove box, even the dealer paper plates and it looks like it was doted over until some honyocker kid got it a few years ago. I would have to find a 2wd tranny, shouldn't be too hard. I think they are only rated around 80 horsepower and 150 torque. Still twice as much as a model A

My 63 Scout 80 had a 152 4 banger when bought a rebuild kit for it they opened up a 304 kit and gave me half of it. Good motors. Thats the bigger 4 banger its worth keeping.

My Packard buddy has a bunch of those engines along with a lot of other 'binder V8's. I'd think that most V8 parts would bolt on like heads from larger ones like the 392 V8 - for that matter, a V8 cam would likely slip right in too, so Hi-Po cam options are there.

the V8 parts absolutely work the engine is half an 8 I worked for IH and you'd use half an engine set on those that one is half of a 392

Well, anyone knows I need another project, but I might have to keep an eye peeled for something quick and dirty. Maybe I'll take that Winny chassis I bought for 50, flip the rear end, add my 12,000 winch and some gin poles so I have a yard crane. A 4 banger would be plenty for that and I would have low range. Mount my 1 cylinder diesel Kubota air compressor on it
