It's sad to think back....how many 55 6 7 Chevys got cut up for race cars when I was younger...if you bent one up to bad...don't straighten it, just cut up another one. I can go back a little further, and remember all of the coupes and sedans that got cut up for race cars......I personaly can remember several 30's and 40's cars that were made into race cars that my dad had a hand in building....oh to only have one or two of any of those now :(

It is not that sad. It is the evolution of a good car. Just like in another 50 years, someone will talk about how we chopped a bunch of good tops, and ratted them out.

Some of these cars had several lives, better than the ones that broke down, or got in a wreck and got crushed.

When I first started going to circle track races in the 60's that was what they were using 30's, 40's and 50's cars. When I was going to dirt track races in the 70's and 80's you'd see 1st gen Camaros, Chevelles, Mustangs, Cudas and Challengers. Nobody thought anything of it they were just old cars. My first dirt car was a 66 Pontiac Tempest hardtop.

Good One...

Now we know where car 54 is.

Now that is funny, "Car 54 where are you?"
Hadn't thought of that show since ... it was on TV :D
Nice one, Bonehead.

Cool photo, Earthman. Brings back memories of Ascot Speedway. '22

Yea,ya know I can already look back just over the last 10 yrs and I cut up a couple real nice 79-82 malibu's w/factory 3-speed,buckets & posi rearends for circle track racin.Wished I'da restored them now.Be sweet street cars. Oh well.

It's scary to think that 30 yrs from now some guy will be pulling some rusted Chevy Citation tin out of a ditch thinking he hit the mother load! OK, maybe 50 yrs from now! :D

I cringe every time my dad starts talking about all the 40s and 50s cars he trashed when he was young.

Old guy stopped by and was telling me about growing up in CA. They would buy Model A's for a few bucks and run them in the desert until they broke down, then just leave them.

I had a strange occurance yesterday. I drive an '84 Ford Crown Vic, and it is in pretty good shape, with only 70,000 on the clock. I pulled in to pick up Chinese food for lunch, and a couple of young guys yelled out "hey, what year is that car? I told them 1984, and the one guy said, "see, I told you guys it was an antique!!" Maybe it's time to enter it in a demolition derby too. :D I guess that is the same logic those guys who trashed the '32's had, it was just an old car to them.

I have an 87 F150 I beat on - guess I better stop that and start restoring it as an antique! Trucks seem to take longer before they turn into collectors.
